NACEDA, Root Change, and The MNC Partnership

In 2008, The National Alliance for Community Economic Development Associations (NACEDA) and Root Change developed a partnership to operationalize Alan Mallach's Managing Neighborhood Change, a framework working towards managing and directing sustainable and equitable neighborhood change in communities across the United States.

As project manager and coordinator, NACEDA has collaborated Root Change in the competitive selection of 3 project locations, including 6 Community Development Corporations and their data partners in which to pilot the MNC framework. Learn More!

The Managing Neighborhood Change Initiative

Managing Neighborhood Change (MNC) is a framework for CDCs, designed by Brooking's Fellow and housing expert Alan Mallach, that seeks to bring new tools to neighborhoods to help stakeholders analyze the local market and determine appropriate strategies to affect needed changes. This includes the development of a protocol, a tool kit and a mechanism for more broadly engaging partners, particularly local governments and institutions, to work as allies in CD endeavors at the local level. Collaborative Competitions

NACEDA's MNC Collaborative Competition initiative is intended to facilitate the identification of tools and strategies used by CDCs and other community development organizations in the past, presently used, or innovative and promising ideas that support workable solutions to the challenges of managing neighborhood change.

A collaborative competition consists of three stages - collecting ideas, reviewing them within the member community, and selecting the most relevant solutions through voting. The goal is for the whole community to share its experience and expertise in bringing forward solutions on challenges related to managing neighborhood change. Learn More!
